Frequently asked questions

For commuters

4 questions

Who will I be sharing with?

Verified colleagues at your organisation, employees of a pre-approved partner organisation (for smaller businesses), or friends already using an existing rideshare group. This will depend on your individual need.

How is the cost worked out?

The real cost of the trip, fuel and wear and tear based on distance travelled, is split according to how far each person actually travels. If one passenger joins in Midrand and another gets in at Centurion, each pays only for their own segment. Nobody overpays.

Does the driver make money?

No, drivers recover the passengers' share of the cost, they do not earn income from it.

What if my plans change on the day?

Bookings can be changed or cancelled the day before, but not on the day itself, to avoid inconveniencing others unless all parties agree. Cancellations and changes may affect a driver's or passenger's rating on the platform.

How do fuel splits and payments work?

Costs are calculated purely on fuel consumption and fair wear-and-tear, proportional to the actual kilometres travelled. Each passenger pays using SnapScan with a dedicated QR code before the trip or on arrival, so there's no cash handling or chasing for payment.

Can I choose who rides with me?

Set the amount of time you're willing to detour from your route, and Asambe matches you with colleagues who fall within that. You can review their requests and choose which to accept.

Can I waive a colleague's fee?

Yes. Drivers can waive a passenger's fee at any time, for example when treating a colleague or covering a specific trip. The system reduces the amount the driver receives by that passenger's trip cost.

For employers & organisations

3 questions

What does it cost the employer?

There are no fees or software setup costs for employers. No IT integration is required, it works right away, without touching your HR databases or corporate servers. All we ask is your help marketing Asambe Commute to employees and supporting the launch.

How do we verify employee accounts?

Verification happens through your approved company email domain during onboarding, so only colleagues with your work email domain can join.

What about safety?

Rides stay within verified workplace networks, or with approved partner organisations for smaller businesses, so employees only ever ride with people who've been workplace verified.
