The name
Asambe is the Xhosa word for “Let's go”

It is an invitation from one person to another: the exact moment our platform creates every morning when employees' schedules connect. It is a phrase built on action and ownership, a reminder that this is our problem to solve.

The genesis story

The reality of the South African daily commute.

Every morning, South African commuters spend close to two hours a week getting to and from work, more than almost anywhere else in the world according to AutoTrader. Solitary drivers add to congestion, and with limited public transport, transport costs weigh heavily on many South African households. Asambe Commute was built around this reality, because commuters have had so few other options.

Rising fuel
Single-commuter fuel and wear and tear weighs on monthly budgets.
Wasted time commuting
Significant time is spent driving alone, leaving people without enough time to socialise.
Limited Parking
Offices not able to keep up with parking demands.

We connect colleagues travelling the same route, reducing commuting costs and turning idle travel time into time spent building connections.

“Our vision is a future where full cars are normal, empty seats are waste, and travel is where people connect.”

How it started

The idea came from working inside a large organisation that was struggling to get people back into the office, especially once petrol prices climbed. Looking around, we noticed just how many people were driving to work alone, each adding to the traffic everyone else had to sit in. We started asking a simple question: how do you turn a frustrating part of the day into something people actually enjoy?

That question became Asambe Commute, an attempt to make ridesharing easy and enjoyable, while helping build communities and reducing our impact on the environment.

Built on uncompromising principles

Every product decision aligns with our four foundational pillars.

Pillar 01

As easy as going alone

Asambe Commute is designed to make ridesharing as frictionless and flexible as driving yourself, without the hassle of coordinating.

Automated ride matching
Pillar 02

Safety first

Rides stay within verified workplace networks and approved partner employers. Trust shouldn't be something you have to work for, it should be a given.

Verified company domains
Pillar 03

Money without the awkwardness

Never negotiate fuel costs with a colleague. Fair shares are worked out automatically by trip distance and settled with a scan.

Automated fair-share splits
Pillar 04

The people are already there

The trips exist, the seats exist, the routes overlap. Nothing new has to be created, it just has to be connected. Someone from your company is already driving your route.
